Next challenge - BY THE OCEAN WE UNITE

A close-up on ocean plastics

I set sail with By the Ocean we Unite on their Expedition Denmark in August 2018. By the Ocean we Unite is a Dutch foundation with charitable status (ANBI), on a mission to prevent more plastics from ending up in our oceans. This, as you may know, is a cause close to my heart.

I spent just under 3 weeks (divided into 2 legs) on a boat with scientists, researchers, documentary makers and activists who all came together to understand the extent of ocean plastics, what can be done to prevent more plastics ending up in the ocean and communicate that to the wider world.

The sailing ship 'Fantastiko', set sail from Rotterdam on 1st August. To make things a little more challenging for myself, I cycled from Dunkerque to Rotterdam before the trip set sail.

The ship rested between 10-13 August in Copenhagen before departing back to Rotterdam. When I arrived back in the UK, I cycled back to London.

This was my perfect adventure holiday, one with purpose and learning, meeting new people, experiencing new environments and cultures. And I felt like I was making a contribution on an issue that matters to me. It also informed the work I do in my my upcoming project, Kik-Plastic.
